GENGHIS KHAN
So apparently there’s a new film making the indie theater rounds called MONGOL about the life of Genghis Khan. I have not seen this movie but according to my friend Sumalee:
”..[it was] ok, i mean, it was all about his life as temudgin and his rise to power and he was soooo monogamous, so whatevers”
Clearly Sergei Bodrov has a story he wants to tell and I cannot fault him this, especially having not yet seen this film but…um what??? Are we talking about the same Genghis Khan here? The Genghis Khan who fathered .5% of the Earth’s population? The Genghis Khan who may or may not have killed 1.75 million people in one hour?
(I know that last bit is unrelated to monogamy but come on…awesome…)
I can only hope that this grave error is remedied in the sequel. And by remedied I mean showing Genghis Khan getting rooty with legions of nubile Mongolians possibly while beheading his foes. I also propose that this this song be included in the soundtrack:
I bought it at a record show for one dollar and it is completely NOT IN ENGLISH. Unfortunately, I have no idea who is singing this (the cover would suggest a lonely samurai with an interest in floral arrangement). Regardless, I feel it captures the sweaty, raw DISCO SEXUALITY of Genghis Khan. LISTEN AND AGREE WITH ME, O GENTLE READER.
