where i blog about batman

Whereas “Batman Begins” showed us Batman as “symbol of fear” and “Dark Knight” showed us Batman as “a paean of praise to the fortitude and moral courage that has been shown by George W. Bush in this time of terror and war” (um whatever Rupert Murdoch), I’m hoping Batman 3 treads a different path.  This is not to say that I did not enjoy Dark Knight—rather, I merely hope the inevitable sequel focuses squarely and intently on my favorite motif in the Bat-mythos:  GIANT BATS PUNCHING. Let’s put the symbollism aside for a minute and just have giant bats DUKING IT OUT.

Obviously, the ideal villains for this picture are MAN-BAT:

and DRACULA:

I was pursuing this line of thought with friend Nate this morning when I uncovered a nugget of pure internet gold:  ANDY WARHOL HAD THIS SAME IDEA IN 1964.

Apparently, he directed and produced a non-DC comics sanctioned BATMAN DRACULA film that predates even Adam West’s version of Batman.  Only fragments exist today and yes they are on Youtube and yes the Velvet Underground and Sun Ra are involved AND YES IT MAKES NO SENSE AT ALL.
